Conditional discharges granted after fight
Three women pleaded guilty to fighting after a night of partying turned sour, Magistrates' Court heard.
Tricia Flowers, 30, Talisae Wade, 30, and Ronnette Gibbons, 26, initially pleaded not guilty on Friday in Magistrates' Court but later changed their pleas to guilty. Flowers was also charged with assaulting a police officer.
The court heard from Crown counsel Paula Tyndale that in the early hours of May 17, Police on patrol noticed a fight breaking out between three women outside of the Spinning Wheel nightclub.
Officers noticed that the women were heavily intoxicated and warned them that they were disturbing the peace.
The three defendants were later spotted fighting in a parking lot on Dundonald Street by Police and continued to fight as they were being arrested.
Officers were escorting Flowers into a police car when she aggressively reached for Wade. She attempted to keep fighting but instead hit the officer.
Graveney Bannister, who was representing Flowers, said: "She had a number of drinks at the party. Normally she doesn't drink that much, but it was a cousin's birthday."
Flowers said: "I'm very sorry for taking up the court's time and I do apologise to the officers."
Magistrate Archibald Warner asked Flowers what they were fighting about and she said "stupidness".
Wade and Gibbons were not represented. Gibbons apologised and said: "It was my birthday and I had a little too much to drink."
Mr. Warner asked Wade if she had been drinking and she replied: "I had a bit."
"You know staying home at night and sleeping is much cheaper?" Mr. Warner said.
"This court takes assaulting a Police officer as a very serious matter. Fortunately for you, this wasn't a direct attack. I am going to impose a conditional discharge for 12 months."
Wade said: "I do apologise, I was provoked by Miss Flowers."
The defendants were each issued a conditional discharge for 12 months.
He left the women with a warning: "If you can't go out at night and behave yourself, stay at home and look after your children."
