Celebrate fatherhood
June 9, 2010
Dear Sir,
I read with some dismay the announcement of the "Doin' it for Daddy" cruise that is going to be held on June 20 for Father's Day. The event, according to the promoter, will feature "lingerie modelling and hot oil wrestling, along with the sale of adult pleasure products". It is my view that Father's Day shouldn't be about giving "Daddy" a night off to watch adult entertainment; it should be a celebration of Fatherhood and the positive role that each man should play in the lives of his children both girls and boys; and it is especially important for us here in Bermuda at a time when violence and disrespect among young people is soaring. I'm not saying that such an 'adult entertainment' cruise should be banned; however I do think that the decision to use it as a celebration of Father's Day is not an admirable one.
The holiday itself (in the US) was started in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington who wanted to honour her father, the man who raised her and her five siblings after their mother died during childbirth. So for all the fathers who are planning on attending, perhaps you might think twice about going on this particular day, and take the kids out for some quality time instead.

P.S. I feel exactly the same way about the cruise which apparently took place for Mother's Day
Lost sense of direction
May 26, 2010
Dear Sir,
Our country is sick and has lost its balance. It has lost its sense of direction and purpose, even its common decency when our Premier stated one down and one to go. By removing the Government's finance to The Royal Gazette I knew that I had to take another look at what we had in a Premier willing to destroy many families because of his personal feelings against The Royal Gazette. I have discovered myself as an individual and have learnt to function as an entity entirely on my own. It has always been my belief that the function of elected representative is to adopt legislation favoured by the majority of the people they represent. This has not happened under Dr. Brown's watch.

Opposition must get tough
June 8, 2010
Dear Sir,
I wish to endorse and compliment Mr. Faiella on his observations in yesterday's paper in relation to the reactions by the present Opposition in Parliament to the runaway behaviour of the present incumbents. Mr. Barritt, both in the House and in your news columns, has in a very polite way attempted to enlighten us all of these problems. Like Mr. Faiella. I believe the opposition has to develop an "in your face" attitude. Using words and actions commonly used and understood by the majority, I hope the Opposition will convince us and some of the members of the House where we have erred in allowing some of the waste, and ignoring of the priorities. The present attitude seems to be that we will remember it at the polls. I feel that we will forget, or hope it will go away. I hope, Mr. Editor, that the opposition members read and digest some of the views of Mr. Faiella and many of us who feel similarly.
