Hypnotist promises 'fun experience'

A world-renowned hypnotist, putting on a show at the City Hall this weekend has reassured audiences it will be entertaining – rather than embarrassing.

Comedy hypnotist Ed Fernandez has travelled the world putting on shows with Princess Cruise Lines and is excited about his appearance in Bermuda on November 6 and 7.

The event organised by The Specialised Youth Arts Charity and Bermuda Magic Production, will also feature RockFire Bermuda dancers who are sure to heat up the stage.

Mr. Fernandez said: "I won't do anything so embarrassing that people will have to leave the Island. I want to make sure everyone has a pleasant experience."

The show, which will feature a segment involving Bollywood musicals and impressions of Michael Jackson, will provide hours of fun and entertainment for the public.

Mr. Fernandez says he caters the gags for audiences around the world and admits Bermuda will be no exception. "Each show is different because the audience members are different. Also each show is a different challenge. That sets up for some very funny adventures on stage.

"One of my favourite gags in the show is when I tell a subject that he is a 'laughing policeman' and if he sees someone laughing he has to tell them to shut up. The only problem is he only speaks Chinese."

The hypnotist was born in Havana, Cuba and admits he learnt his skills from his father, a professional magician and hypnotist. He made his first stage appearance at the age of five as his father's assistant, then conducted his own show with school friends at 14 years old. In his 20s he studied magical realms with highly acclaimed Canadian hypnotist and psychic researcher, Alan Spraggett – and watched as his career skyrocketed.

Since then, he has appeared on some of the top US and Canadian television shows with stars such as Jerry Lewis, Bob Hope, John Candy and Dan Ackroyd. He also appeared on stage with Liberace at the Hilton in Las Vegas. Due to years of experience, Mr. Fernandez is confident he can hypnotise almost anyone on the Island, but admits there is one-type of person he can't reach.

"I believe most people can be hypnotised if enough time is allowed. Some require more time than others. However, if a person does not want to be hypnotised, they won't be," he said, adding that people intent on fighting it, rarely get to take part in the experience.

All in all, he anticipatesaudiences will enjoy themselves, adding: "The show is a totally fun experience for the audience and the subjects on stage as well".

Tickets for the event cost $45 and are available at www.bdatix.bm. Children and families are encouraged to attend the Friday night show, but the Saturday show is reserved for adults-only.
