Match abandoned after 'keeper injury

The First Division game between Somerset Eagles and Ireland Rangers at White Hill Field was abandoned after just five minutes of play on Sunday when Eagles goalkeeper Gabriel Wilkinson received a serious head injury and taken away by ambulance (full story, see Page One).

Reportedly he was kicked in the head after a 50-50 challenge and such was the seriousness of the injury that a decision was made to halt the game immediately.

Last night, Wilkinson was believed to be undergoing surgery at hospital in the USA.

Other action in the league on Sunday saw St. David's, one of the teams favoured for promotion, defeat Paget 3-0 with Dejaun Paynter and skipper Angelo Cannonier among the goalscorers.

At BAA Field, Andrew Jackson netted after 70 minutes to give Prospect a 1-0 victory over BAA who had Sanjay DeSilva and Gary Adams miss good scoring chances.

At Wellington Oval, St. George's Colts beat X-Roads 3-1 with all the goals coming in the first half. Scoring for Colts were Allan Douglas jr (penalty), Jade Foggo and Jarizaino Bassett.

On Saturday night, home side Somerset Trojans got an early goal to beat Social Club 1-0.
