Free to learn

As someone who is particularly interested in the education of young people, freedom for me means the freedom of privilege.

Recently, I have become much more appreciative of the fact that Bermudian students have great educational opportunities. In high school, we are able to attain qualifications that are globally recognised, which not only help us now but prepare us for whatever goals we may have in the future. These, along with Bermuda's numerous links to other countries also greatly assist us in our ability to pursue a further education, and for those who do not necessarily want to leave, a relatively good college education is available locally. I think young people in Bermuda do not always remember just how privileged we are, that we have the freedom to enjoy these benefits; we are not hindered by race or class, everyone in Bermuda can receive an education if they wish it.

I believe that if we keep in mind that in most of the world, a quality education is not readily available, we can accept the privilege and responsibility we have to use these gifts to the best of our abilities.
