NYC Police have questions for Pierce
EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (AP) — Super Bowl hero Plaxico Burress has been suspended by the New York Giants for the rest of the season after an accidental shooting incident in a nightclub in Manhattan at he weekend, while Police still have questions for his Bermuda-linked teammate Antonio Pierce who was with Burress.
Burress has been charged with illegal weapons possession, which carries a penalty of three-and-a-half to 15 years in prison if he's convicted.
Police want to know what Antonio Pierce, who has a Bermudian father, did moments after the shooting and whether he took part in a cover-up. Mr. Pierce's lawyer said yesterday he contacted prosecutors as soon as he was hired by the linebacker on Monday.
"After the events in question, Mr. Pierce did what any other reasonable person would do under the circumstances, he hired counsel," attorney Michael Bachner said. He said he hasn't been notified that Pierce will be charged.
"Mr. Pierce, given the extraordinary circumstances of that evening, acted responsibly in trying to save what could have been the life of a friend," Mr. Bachner said.
