Dockers will begin an overtime ban on Friday after losing patience with management in pay talks.

It will mean the unloading of the Oleander, which brings nearly 200 containers every week, will begin a day late.

Bermuda Industrial Union president Chris Furbert said: "Negotiations have reached an impasse, workers are a bit challenged by some of the things management is saying around the table.

"Workers have rejected a pay offer, they think management could offer better, so they have implemented an overtime ban."

The two sides are negotiating a two-year deal which was supposed to start last month.

A statement from Bermuda Container Line Ltd. said: "While this suspension of overtime is in effect there will be no cargo operations on the Oleander on Sunday evenings and no delivery of reefer containers early on Monday mornings.

"We regret any inconvenience this suspension of overtime causes our customers.

"We will inform trade of any progress in these negotiations immediately it is known."
