Under-20s miss out in Cup qualifiers

Bermuda failed in their quest to qualify for the next stage of the Under-20 World Cup qualifiers despite finishing second in their group.

The Gombey Warriors beat Puerto Rico 2-1 on Sunday courtesy of goals from North Village's Shayne Hollis and Boulevard's Ian Coke, but still did not qualify as one of the four best runners-up.

The competition, staged in Cayman Islands, also saw Mark Wade's side drew 0-0 with the hosts and lose 4-0 against the eventual group winners Jamaica.

n Tyrell Burgess' Reading Rage have been crowned champions of the 2008 Eastern Conference Premier Development League (PDL) after beating Brooklyn Knights.

Bermuda international Burgess scored a 40th-minute penalty to give the Philadelphia-based outfit a 1-0 victory in front of their home crowd on Sunday.

The Rage, formerly coached by Bermuda technical director Derek Broadley, will now meet defending champions Laredo Heat in the National Final Four.

The final of the National Final Four will be screened on the Fox Soccer Channel.

n Bermuda Football Association (BFA) have launched a new life skills forum in an effort to ensure the sport is a positive influence in the lives of the young men and women who play the game.

The forum 'Football – The Game of Life' will last the length of a football game and will be followed by a six-a-side tournament for players from the Under-18 league.

The forum takes place on September 13 from midday at the Berkeley Institute.
