Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) have lost a former president following the death of Leslie Lynch, who left behind a legacy of support and enthusiasm for the sport.

He was 78.

Lynch was the president of the BLTA from 1977 to 1979 and was a driving force behind starting a junior programme on the Island.

Before his presidency, he served on numerous committees.

Current BLTA president David Lambert yesterday sent out his condolences and remembered the notable achievements of Lynch which he said had heavily contributed to the development of tennis in Bermuda.

"He was also a qualified chair and line umpire," said Lambert.

"When it comes to competing, he was a very tough competitor who had a sound all-round game.

"On behalf of the board of directors and members of the BLTA, we definitely want to acknowledge his contribution and support of the game on the Island.

"He will certainly be missed by many people, especially the tennis community."

The funeral will be held tomorrow at St. Paul AME Church.
