Fifth annual London booze cruise raises $7,000 for charity

Bermudians in London got a taste of home during a charity booze cruise on the River Thames last month.

Bermudians living in London got a taste of home during a booze cruise — and raised over $7,000 for charity at the same time.

The fifth annual event took place on the River Thames on July 18 on a two-decked party boat called The Golden Flame.

It featured drinks, a buffet, Crown and Anchor and a limbo competition.

Ticket sales raised a record amount for three charities — a community programme in Kenya called the Tusk Trust, the British Red Cross China Earthquake Appeal and the Disasters Emergency Committee Myanmar (Burma) Cyclone Appeal.

Organiser Matthew Davies, who is from Southampton and has lived in London for seven years, said: "There were certainly a record number of Bermuda shorts on display in London this year.

"The cruise happened in fairly grim London weather, but despite the lack of sunshine we still had a great turnout of over 160 Bermudians, friends and family."
