Tree planted to honour the late Nelson Bascome
A tree was planted in the grounds of the House of Assembly in honour of the late Health Minister Nelson Bascome.
Mr. Bascome's widow Shirlene and his old friend Premier Ewart Brown performed the ceremony on Friday in front of onlooking MPs to mark the first session of the House since the Minister died from a heart attack in July.
It was planted at the front of the hill so that it will be visible to passers-by on Parliament Street.
Mr. Bascome, a father-of-three, served for the Progressive Labour Party as an MP from 1989 until his death, and was on the PLP's first Cabinet in 1998.
He spent much of his political career as Health Minister, but was also well-known for his community work in his Pembroke East Central constituency. He was replaced in the House by Michael Weeks of the PLP following a by-election this summer.
