UK woman who disrupted flight deported home
A woman whose behaviour caused a flight to be diverted to the Island has been flown back to the UK as investigations continue.
The 45-year-old, who has not been identified, was travelling with her husband on a Thompson Airways flight from Manchester, England to the Dominican Republic on Friday when the pair began to argue.
According to a Police spokesperson, she became abusive to other passengers who were attempting to calm her down. Efforts were then made to restrain her, but she then assaulted a crew member. Crew and passengers eventually restrained her, and the plane was diverted to the Island.
When the plane landed in Bermuda at 6.15 p.m. she was arrested by Bermuda Police at the LF Wade International Airport, still spouting profanities.
While the flight continued at 8.23 p.m. the woman was held at the Southside Police station where she was interviewed by detectives. Based on advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, the decision was made to fly the woman back to England.
"She was flown out of the Island on Monday, November 8 on a commercial flight via the US under the escort of two Bermuda Police Service Officers," said a spokesperson.
"They arrived in Manchester Tuesday morning and she was immediately taken into custody by Manchester police officers, who have now taken over the investigation."
