FOR THE RECORD

In the January 30 edition of The Royal Gazette we reported the Dockyard cruise ship pier capital project was originally supposed to cost $35 million but cost taxpayers $65 million.

To clarify the 2007-08 Budget set aside $20 million to be spent that year on the pier. That year the Total Authorised Funding (TAF) was set at $35 million. The 2008-9 Budget increased the project's TAF to $50 million, a 40 percent rise. The 2009-10 Budget revealed a final TAF at $60 million, of which $56 million has been spent.

With regards to the Port Royal Golf Course we reported the 2007/2008 Budget stated the cost of the overhaul of one of Bermuda's public golf courses was stated as $7 million, it rose to $13.6 million in the 2009 Budget. The final cost was $15.9 million. To clarify $7 million was set aside in the 2007/2008 Budget. When work started in 2008 the TAF was $14.7 million. Therefore the overrun was $1.2 million.
