Income disparity by race continues
The disparity in income between black and white employees continued last year.
Meanwhile, the total number of jobs filled by white employees fell by 3.9 percent last year compared to 2008 while the total number of jobs filled by black employees fell by two percent.
The Department of Statistics' Job Market Employment Brief revealed the median income for white employees was $74,176 in 2009 while the median income for black employees was approximately $21,000 less.
The report also stated there was "a significant amount of variation in the median annual income of jobholders when highlighted by Bermudian status".
Bermudian job holders' median annual income was $53,887 while the median income for permanent residents certificate holders and spouses of Bermudians was $58,442 and $66,153 respectively. The median annual income of other non-Bermudians was $64,370.
The report followed on: "Persons that worked as senior officials and managers earned the highest salaries having a median annual income of $89,404. Job holders in professional positions earned the second highest at $78,551.
"The median annual income for technicians and associate professional employees was $64,446, while craft and related trade workers, clerks, and plant and machine operators earned $53,351, $51,264 and $48,852, respectively."
In total 20,785 jobs were filled by black people last year, down 424 positions, while 12,961 jobs were filled by white people, down 527 positions.
