Following up on a double century barely a week ago, Smith notched 107 not out on Saturday against a Morpeth team containing former Australian Test bowler Chris Matthews. He participated in a first wicket stand of 173 with Oliver Mathias (48) -- a league record for a limited overs match.

Benwell won the match by nine wickets, replying to Morpeth's 182 for eight from 50 overs with 186 for the loss of just one wicket.

Earlier in the week Smith claimed two for six from four overs as his team dismissed County Club for a paltry 60 in a 20-over contest. Smith returned with the bat to score 39 not out as Benwell cruised home by nine wickets.
