Get registered walk
Saturday's End to End charity walk, it was announced yesterday.
The expected 800 to 900 participants can now pre-register tonight during Harbour Nights at the Chamber of Commerce board room after 5.30 p.m.
They will get their walk numbers, T-Shirts, caps and sunscreen in advance of the 13th annual walk.
Spokesperson for the End to End Walk committee Terri Durrant said walkers not only benefit from the healthy and invigorating walk, they also can live with the satisfaction of aiding a charity.
"As a walker it is fulfilling to help the charities and get the pledges,'' she said. " When we talk to the charities afterward, it's heartwarming to hear how well the money was spent. The stories are real tear jerkers. They are all so thankful.'' Those not taking advantage of the advance registration can officially join the walk after 6.45 a.m. at the St. George's start point.
Middle to End walkers can pre-register after 9.45 a.m. at the Albouy's Point starting area.
The End to End walk starts at 8 a.m. and the Middle to End walk starts at 11 a.m.
Five charities have been chosen to receive contributions from this year's walk: The Physical Abuse Centre; Teen Haven; TB Cancer & Health Association; St. George's Parish Rest Home; and the Hands of Love Ministry.
Walkers are asked to refrain from discarding trash along the route except in the provided trash bags and bins.
Mrs. Durrant said: "Truthfully, it is a problem because it gives us a bad name. There is no excuse for it.
"We are trying to address it by joining with Keep Bermuda Beautiful and the Works and Engineering Ministry to provide more trash bags and receptacles.
People just hurl it into the undergrowth when a receptacle is a short distance away.''
