Fahy on record pace
The only Bermudian swimmer to have qualified for the Games in September, 22-year-old Fahy smashed his own 200 yards Individual Medley national record and two Yale University records when he competed at the annual Harvard/Princeton/Yale meet in Harvard's Blodgett Pool over the weekend.
All meet events were measured in yards and not in metres which is the recognised international standard.
Fahy clocked 1:48.50 in the 200 IM, bettering the old mark of 1:49.23. And in the 400 IM he was timed in 3:54.64, more than two seconds inside the old record of 3:58.52.
The former Saltus student, who is also Yale's 100 butterfly record holder, plans to continue his training for the Olympics at Yale throughout the summer months leading up to the Games.
Fahy's father Mike, who watched the weekend event, said yesterday: "I think Stephen was very pleased with his times. He has a very good relationship with his coach at Yale and he wants to continue working with him right up to the Games.'' Stephen Fahy: two new records.
