James inches closer to Olympic place

Olympics yesterday when he clocked 10.42 seconds in the 100 metres during a meet in Flagstaff, Arizona.

James needs a qualifying mark of 10.40 in order to meet the B standard mark and felt that he would have made it yesterday had the conditions been more favourable.

"It was cool and windy out there today and I messed up with my warm-up by sitting down to focus on the task ahead only to allow myself to get cold in the process which affected my run,'' he said.

"I was just super tight going into the race, but I strongly believe that I am going to accomplish my goal. The next time I am going to be prepared, that's for sure.'' That next time in this event is today when he competes in the 100 metres once again.

Last night James was also scheduled to run in the 200 metres and tonight he will again compete in a second race over this distance as well.

The youngster revealed that the steady racing during a short period isn't putting too much stress and physical pressure on his shoulders.

"It's no big thing. I have come here to work towards achieving something and that's what I have to do,'' he said.

Some other Bermuda athletes are also in the meet, but there has been no news of their progress.

Olympian Devon Bean ran in another 100 metres heat yesterday, but reportedly ran slower than James.
