Call to discuss sexuality with your children

Teen Services have urged parents and children to discuss sexuality and other sensitive issues with each other.

Research has shown that adolescents prefer their parents to serve as their sexuality educators so the organisation called on parents to fill this role.

May is Teen Pregnancy Prevention month and Teen Services, along with the Centre for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention (CADA), Women's Clinic and Pastor Darren Lowe have a number of events planned.

The theme of the campaign is "Are you ready for Parenthood?'' School students from across the Island have already sent in their entries for the `Why teen parenthood is not for me' poster, essay and poetry contest.

The winners will be displayed at City Hall from May 8 to 12.

The General Post Office will also have displays during May.

During April, Teen Services visited schools and discussed issues like teen pregnancy, drug and alcohol abuse and teen sexuality with students.

The public is asked to show its support of Teen Services and its co-sponsors, by wearing a green ribbon during May.
