For a better BermudaDecember 30, 2010Dear Sir,My new year’s resolution is to support the Physical Abuse Centre by giving them my time, talent, and resources, so that we can come together as a community to help teach our children through our example to show more love and respect towards our fellow man. “Lets Stop This Violence.” It is my hope we can win this. Families can build a stronger bond of unity for a better Bermuda. This is our legacy. We have to protect it. My wish is that all Bermudians become a part of this solution to solve the problem. Remember guys, “Bermuda is another world”.MARK ANDERSONThe man behind Sybil Barrington.City of HamiltonA note of thanksDecember 15, 2010Dear Sir,1 Corinthians 12:12, 21,22 says, “The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. ...The eye cannot say to the hand, I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable.”The body needs every part working together for it to function well. So it was with everyone who had any part to do with the Matilda Smith Williams Seniors’ Tag Days held on Friday, November 19 and Saturday, November 20, 2010. You all came together as one body.We first thank God for helping us to raise approximately $14,000.00. We then thank the public for their donations. Thank you, also, to all who supported us by selling tags. We appreciated your cooperation and look forward to your assistance on our tag days next year.IANTHIA EVE (MRS)For and on behalf of the Board of DirectorsMatilda Smith Williams Seniors ResidenceModern slaveryDecember 23, 2010Dear Sir,Sen. Kim Wilson, the reasons why those jobs aren’t being filled by Bermudians are as follows:1. These places doesn’t want to really pay for those positions which entail a lot of work for one person.2. If you re hired as a kitchen porter which is washing pots and pans and taking out the trash then that is all you should be doing not helping to prepare food or collect the dishes.3. The hours are terrible and long. Therefore you don’t get time for yourself or family. So you see, Sen. Wilson, it is up to these places to step up their game and stop trying to enforce a modern type of slavery.Dear Anguished Mother,Hang in there! I myself have been there. It is very hard being a single parent in these times; but keep the faith it will work out in the end.Dear Christopher, It is very unfortunate that you are judged by your past. Everyone has made a mistake in their lives. Some are more extreme than others. Hang in there and keep your faith. It will work out in the end. That is what I do so that I can be strong and go forward; because if I let everything or everyone pull me down, I would be pushing up daisies. Have a Merry Christmas anywayLAVITA WILLIAMSPembrokeOutsourcing FutureCareDecember 15, 2010Dear Sir,New Health Minister Zane DeSilva needs to address FutureCare problems, which the former Minister did not. Why do the claims have to be outsourced to Texas? This money should be paid to staff in Bermuda. Seniors have to wait months to get the little money due them. Perhaps Mrs Louise Jackson or someone else can get all seniors in FutureCare to have a sit-in at this office to get results. Mr Zane DeSilva show you care about seniors.J. WADEPembroke
