Bargains galore at Belmont Golf sale
Golfers in search of discounted equipment both new and used have until Friday to snap up bargains when the liquidation sale at Belmont Golf Club will wrap up.
But what is left is selling fast said employees at the pro shop yesterday.
“For the first day, it's pretty good. It didn't take long to get rid of a lot of stuff,” said an employee yesterday who added that everything was being sold pretty much at cost.
Items for sale include balls, hats, gloves, clothes, ex-rental clubs with a bag for $250, ex-rental shoes and many other golfing accessories at discount prices.
And for the ultimate golfing enthusiast or large estate owner, the club's carts will also be sold for around $500, although some may need repair.
As well as golfing accessories, all of the clubhouse furniture and appliances are for sale and even the air conditioners were sold yesterday.
The old 150-room hotel and clubhouse are set to be demolished and rebuilt, incorporating a medium to high class hotel as well as residential units.
Richard Halsey, the new owner of the Warwick property, is expected to submit detailed plans to Planning and the Department of Tourism outlining his vision for the site within weeks.
His cousin Kevin Petty of Somers Management and Somers Realty, who is managing director of the project, said the goal was to open the hotel by the summer of 2003 but work on the residential units should continue through to 2006.
The golf course will close this month for between one year and 16 months for upgrading and rebuilding the clubhouse and golf course designers are busy putting together new plans which will see a number of improvements being made, as well as a significant water feature being installed.
When it reopens, all former staff will be able to apply for their old jobs.
