BTC urge the public to try their cellular phones
The Bermuda Telephone Company yesterday took to the streets of Hamilton to inform passers-by of their new services.
BTC recently cut its cellular phone sales to promote cellular services, such as call waiting and call forwarding, instead.
Armed with brochures, badges and cellular phones, BTC Mobility advertisers stopped random members of the public to request their assistance.
During the demonstration, volunteers were allowed to use a cellular phone free of charge for two minutes.
This aimed to allow them to form opinions on the clarity of the connection, rather than its physical appearance or personal advantage.
Outside of the Irish Linen Shop on Queen Street, passer-by John Ross, who jumped at the chance of having a free phone call, said: "It was very clear, even though it is very noisy around here. It was great.'' Agreeing with him was traffic warden Donna Roberts who said the line was "clearer than I thought it would be''.
Craig Mahon, who was stopped on the steps of the Bank of Bermuda's Front Street branch told The Royal Gazette : "It worked well, but it wasn't that clear because of the weather.'' BTC Mobility has agreed to sell their services at six outlets including Island Satellite, Unlimited Supplies and Audio Visual Electronics.
Features will include call waiting, three-way calling, call transfer, call forwarding, group ringing and voice mail as soon as the packages are approved by the Telecommunications Commission.
