Tourism Minister following a mini-project on the tourism industry assigned by

Dear Hon. C.V. Jim Woolridge, My class closed their year with a mini-project on Tourism, utilising in part some new local textbooks given to us this year by the Department of Education.

The students were interested in the topic, and, I believe, fulfilled my goals which were: 1. To become aware of the Tourist Industry as a future career.

2. To become aware of the role they presently fulfil in Tourism.

We visited a small property (Astwood Cove), as well as a larger property (Sonesta Beach) as part of our research. The tours we were given were very informative and interesting.

I enclose several of the letters that the students wrote to the Minister of Tourism about what they see as the role they can play in Tourism at present, as well as several of the posters that they designed. Perhaps they can be used somewhere that tourists might see them? Thanking you for your time and interest.

Yours truly, (Lisa Siese, P.5 teacher) Dear Hon. C.V. (Jim) Woolridge, This letter is to help you promote Bermuda. I can start by being polite to tourists on the bus and by telling them how beautiful our island is.

When I go to the beach at Sonesta I show the guests the Longtail's nest that I've found. Some take pictures and some just like to look. I tell them that it is our national bird, and they can buy a gold souvenir of the bird in Hamilton.

We all need to show the tourists how friendly Bermudians are. We need to keep our island litter free. If we don't, the tourists will find somewhere else to go.

I think Bermuda is the best place in the world. I'll do my best to keep it this way.

Yours truly, (Dejaune Easton, P.5 student) Dear Hon. C.V. (Jim) Woolridge, I think that I, Michelle Monk, can help promote Bermuda by these ways.

One: I could be tidy, especially when I am dressed in what I wear to school.

Two: I could give up my seat on the bus for an older person.

Three: I could give somebody information if they ask for it.

Four: I could recommend places that a friend or I have visited and enjoyed.

But one thing not to do is to tell someone to go somewhere where you have not visited because you do not know if you liked it or did not.

Five: The most important of all is to BE FRIENDLY TO ALL TOURISTS.

These things are my suggestions to help promote Bermuda.

One of Bermuda's Ambassadors, (Michelle A. Monk, P.5 Student) Dear Hon. C.V. (Jim) Woolridge, I think that I can help promote Bermuda by helping to keep Bermuda clean and tidy. To do this I will not litter or pollute Bermuda.

Secondly, I can help by recommending places of interest. I could recommend different places such as Horseshoe Bay Beach, Crystal Caves, and there are many more.

Most tourists come because of the friendly people. When they meet someone on the street and ask, "Where is City Hall?'' Bermudians will answer them politely.

I hope that many tourists will visit in the many years to come.

Yours truly, (Akira Grenardo, P.5 student) Dear Hon. C.V. (Jim) Woolridge, I am writing this letter to tell you how I can promote Bermuda. First of all I can help out the tourists to read the maps of Bermuda. I could also give them advice as to where the best golf courses are, or where the best restaurants are. In order to show our tourists how beautiful Bermuda is, we need to clean our island and always pick up trash.

I could tell the tourists where to rent mopeds. I could also tell them the way to the beautiful beaches of Bermuda.

These are just some of the ways I can promote Bermuda. There are many other ways, such as being friendly, and helping them when they look lost. I realised how important tourists are to Bermuda. We should encourage them to come back and visit Bermuda.

A concerned Bermudian, (Ryan Swan, P.5 student) Dear Hon. C.V. (Jim) Woolridge, I believe that I can promote tourism in these ways. I can promote tourism by being polite. Here are other ways, when I go away I can take brochures. I can take away the BERMUDA video that was made. When I go away I could wear a Bermuda t-shirt, or give our brochures.

Yours sincerely, (Kara Harris, P.5 student)
