Bermuda golfers move up five places in Chile: BERMUDA BRIEF

Bermuda shot their second successive score of 235, this time on the other course, the par 72 LaTesa Golf Club, in Santiago, Chile to move up five places in the World Amateur Golf Championships.

At the halfway stage of the 72-hole tournament, the Bermuda team of Michael sims, Blake Marshall, Henry Ascento and Andrew Trott are now 37th out of 52 competing countries.

Teenager Sims, the low scorer for Bermuda in Thursday's opening round, was again the country's most consistent player as he shot a three-over-par 75 while Marshall had a 79, Ascento an 81 and Trott an 88. The best three scores counted.

"It's been very challenging, the trouble the players are having has been around the greens which are very small and very fast,'' said manager Steven Perry.

"When you miss the greens you pay severe penalties for it.'' Perry was impressed with the form shown by Sims whose second round score puts him 42nd out of close to 200 players in individual scoring.

"Mike is playing extremely well,'' Perry admitted. "He is the only player from Bermuda in the top 100.'' Perry says the heat is still causing problems for the players, but that they were coping well.

"The heat is just unbelievable, like a dry, desert heat,'' he stated.

Temperatures are in the middle to high 80s.

Finland are leading the teams with five under par while the United Staes are one stroke back and Puerto Rico third on three under par.
