Best calls for Euro tour
Cup campaign next year with a tour of Europe.
Bermuda's coaching director Clyde Best handed a written presentation with this recommendation to Bermuda Football Association's executive committee earlier this month.
The committee met on Tuesday night and discussed the matter but it isn't known whether any decision was made during the initial deliberations.
In addition to having the senior national squad travel to Europe for training and matches, it's believed Best would also like to give the Under-23 squad similar international exposure, if not in Europe then in North America, the Caribbean or Central America.
Both squads are involved in major international tournaments early next spring -- the seniors in the World Cup preliminary rounds and the under-23s in Olympic qualifying.
The under-23s will travel to Panama in March for matches with the hosts and Cuba. The top team of the trio will move to the final qualifying round in the US in late April with two out of six making the trip to Sydney.
The BFA's coaching committee have reacted positively to Best's request.
Chairman of the committee Jon Beard said: "I personally think we would like to do a tour of Europe in particular but it should be pointed out that working with a limited budget, it's often not possible to do trips of this nature.'' Referring to the million dollars FIFA have given to countries in the CONCACAF region for development over the next four years, Beard added: "People seem to think that FIFA have written us this massive cheque, but that isn't the case.
"FIFA don't just give us the money -- it's only for specific things. "Yes, some of the money we can ask for is for World Cup build-up, but additional money is also needed for players' wages, because they certainly have to be compensated.
"We aren't just talking about airfare and accommodation cash, there's a host of other things.'' Best's request will go to the executive committee and then to the finance committee who will make an analysis of the recommendations in order to see if sufficient cash can be made available.
"He informed us that he wants them to get international exposure and particularly he wants to get them to go to Europe, but right now everything is pretty much in the discussion stage,'' said Beard.
"We've got to see if we can find money and make it happen. Obviously with the World Cup and Olympic qualifiers coming up in the new year we want it to happen.
"I envision trips being made abroad for both teams, maybe including the Eastern seaboard, Caribbean and other places where Clyde would like to see us exposed.'' There was a hint that the BFA are closer to finalising something for the under-23s before the end of the year, but whether it will be an incoming tour or outgoing trip remains to be seen.
"We've got a few irons in the fire, hopefully for the under-23s by the end of the year, and as far as the senior national team is concerned, if not by the end of the year, then definitely early in the new year, '' said Beard.
"But the problem is that we ask people to come here and we negotiate and they then drop out, they can't afford something or their demands are too much for us. It's really not that simple making the arrangements.''
