Champs Vasco close in on title
all but wrap up the league title for the unbeaten league leaders.
For Hamilton Parish, Somerset, Boulevard and Devonshire Colts -- all in the bottom half of the standings -- would then have to take points off Vasco in their remaining matches to allow Village and Town to close what would be an eight point gap between themselves and the leaders.
Vasco did suffer a rare defeat last weekend when Dandy Town knocked them out of the FA Cup.
However, Town have already played Vasco twice and will now have to rely on Village tomorrow and Wolves on Tuesday night to keep the race open by stopping the first place team.
That Wolves match is Vasco's game in hand and if they win tomorrow and then beat Wolves they would be at least eight points ahead of Town and Village with only four matches remaining.
Town coach Mark Trott vowed that his team would be battling for the title until it is mathematically impossible to win it, which could happen sooner than he would like if Town don't take maximum points off Devonshire Colts tomorrow.
Both teams had good cup wins in their last outings, Town upsetting Vasco and Colts beating Devonshire Cougars in the FA Cup and Village in the Friendship in midweek.
The relegation issue should also shape up after tomorrow and Tuesday when Boulevard, winners of their last two league games, have the chance to move away from the bottom two places.
They play bottom team Hamilton Parish at Wellington Oval tomorrow and then take on Village on Tuesday in their make-up match.
Victory for Boulevard in those two matches could also see them move ahead of Southampton, Somerset and Colts in mid-table. Cougars meet Somerset at home in a match they must win while Rangers entertain Wolves at Southampton Oval in the other match.
In the Second Division, already promoted PHC can spoil Social Club's promotion bid when they meet at Bernard Park. Social Club are the only team to beat PHC in the league this season so the Zebras will be looking for revenge. And it could be sweet with the second promotion spot still up for grabs.
St. David's are presently the favourites to join PHC back in the First Division next season, but they won't get any favours from Prospect at Lord's.
St. David's are three points ahead of Somerset Eagles and Prospect with Social Club, a further point back, expected to be the other team in the four-team battle for promotion.
Eagles meet bottom team Ireland Rangers tomorrow while St. George's, who qualified for their second straight Shield final in midweek, host Paget in the other match at Wellington Oval.
