And the public will be able to learn more about it this morning at a meeting at Elliott Primary School on Hermitage Road, Devonshire.

The workshop, which is the Phi Delta Kappa Bermuda chapter's first for the year, will feature author and California State University professor emeritus William E. Webster. Renowned for his research on school administration and technology, Dr. Webster will speak about "teacher empowerment''.

In addition to making teachers the "best they can be'', Dr. Webster said teacher empowerment enabled schools to organise in a way which allowed teachers to have more input in the school's operation. "A lot of teachers don't want to be involved in the process,'' he noted. "But then a great deal of others feel it is a professional obligation.'' Elliott principal and Phi Delta Kappa local chapter member Beverly Thompson said she believed local educators would embrace the teacher empowerment concept.
