Bermuda Squash Racquets Club recently completed a holiday programme which targetted the Island's junior players.
"The aim of the activity programme was to give kids of all age groups and standards the chance to play, improve and most of all, enjoy the game,'' said director of squash Jane Parker.
Tournament winners included James Stout, Keith Edmunds, Jason Edmunds and Jonathan Carter. Carter's triumph was all the more impressive as the youngster picked up a racquet for the first time just five days prior to the competition.
Meanwhile, the BSRA, in keeping with their `squash-for-all' theme, will continue to promote activities for the Island's youth, with regular coaching clinics and games scheduled for each Saturday.
These sessions are open to both members and non-members. Equipment is provided and the first session is free. Participants need only bring white uniform and white sneakers.
Schedule: Green (4-5 year-olds, 1.20-2.00 p.m.); Blue (6-8 year-olds, 2.00-2.40 p.m.); Red (9-12 year-olds, 3.00-4.00 p.m.); Bronze (12-15 year olds, 4.00-5.00 p.m.); Silver (Mixed age group -- Advanced class, 5..00-6.00 p.m.).
Following the success of the recent Corporate Team tournament, the BSRA is set to launch a Graded Squash Team ladies tournament on Saturday, January 22.
The event is open to both members and non-members of all age groups and standards, with a handicap system in effect to balance the field.
Teams must have at least three players per match, although more players can bee registered in each squad.
Matches will take place on Sunday evenings from January to April.
