At the beginning of August, the 15-year-old from Sandys Parish took up a new post as an airline assistant giving out the documents passengers needed to prepare for check-in.

"Most of the tourists are okay, but as they say there's always a rotten egg with every bunch and I don't always get nice people,'' Leslie admitted. But the teenager, who is entering his last year at CedarBridge this fall, plans to work at the Airport on the weekends throughout the school year.

Leslie said he enjoys working at the Airport because he finds many people who are willing to help other people and who are also committed to helping him.

After secondary school the teenager plans to go to college and get a degree in tourism and hospitality.

"I've been speaking to a lot of people and they say that black youths are not ready for life when they graduate and that they don't know what they want to do when they get out of school,'' Leslie said. "But I know what I want to do in life,'' the confident youth added.

When asked where he wanted to go to school Leslie said: "I hope to get a scholarship and I will go wherever that leads me.'' Leslie said he would eventually like to become "a cruise director and work for an airline as their airline representative''. He began working at the Airport last December as a VIP ambassador after he was nominated for the position by some visitors.

"Some visitors were talking to me one day and they just nominated me for the position,'' he recalled. Every weekend Leslie would set up a stand and greet the visitors who were waiting to leave the Island in the Airport's departure area. Leslie has two older siblings, Antoine and Antoinette, and says that his mother always encourages him to "go ahead and do it''.
