Bean, Simons strike gold
Invitational Track and Field meeting in Virginia on the weekend.
In the triple jump, Bean leapt 49 feet, six inches to finish first in the boys 17 to 18 category and the feat enabled him to become the first Bermudian to enter the Gold Hall of Fame. Athletes gain entrance into the Hall when they have achieved six first-place finishes.
Simons also produced a gold medal-winning jump of 47 feet, five-and-a-half inches in the boys 15 to 16 age group.
Four Bermudians -- Simika Telford (nine to 10 girls), Nadir Wade (nine to 10 boys), Tiffany Scraders (11 to 12 girls) and Gina Cann (13 to 14 girls) qualified for the semifinals in the 200 metres dash.
Also earning a berth in the semifinals in the boys 10 and under 4x400 relay were Nadir and Nasir Wade, Delmari Scott and Richard Walcott.
There are 19 Bermudians participating in the meet.
