$200,000.

The figure was revealed to The Royal Gazette by a Government spokesman, who did not wish to be named.

Problems with the 100-year-old building were uncovered more than seven weeks ago during routine roof patching.

It was found the wooden and slate roof was completely rotten and needed replacing.

The school's reopening date this summer was put back because of the problems.

Yesterday Works & Engineering buildings manager Mr. Don Baldwin said repairs were continuing smoothly.

"We are doing additional works within the building to ensure it is brought up to the code required.

"We are also doing a considerable amount of additional rewiring, putting in additional points, and replacing the flooring,'' he said.

Mr. Baldwin said there had been some flooding recently, although this was not unusual with such work.

"We are doing the job properly thoughout the building, so it will be completely upgraded.'' Mr. Baldwin said the repairs would be completed by the end of the year.

Dr. Marion Robinson, the Education Ministry's permanent secretary, said staff and children had moved elsewhere during the revamp.

The two-floor building holds 11 classrooms and a staff room.
