St. George's hang on
St. George's held on to first place in the First Division with this narrow victory over rivals St. David's at St. David's Oval yesterday.
There was little to separate the two in the first half which ended even at 1-1, St. George's taking the lead through Sinclair Gibbons after five minutes and Chris Foggo levelling 11 minutes later.
St. George's appeared to take the initiative when play re-started as they grabbed a 3-1 lead on goals by Herbie Bascome after 53 minutes and Ernest Signor after 56 minutes.
And it looked as though St. George's would put the result out of reach when Marlon Outerbridge gave them a 4-1 lead after 61 minutes, but their opponents refused to roll over and die.
St. David's fought back mightily, with Landro Minors making it 4-2 when he rifled home a free kick from 18 yards after 65 minutes.
That goal inspired the home side and they inched closer with a third goal after 70 minutes when O.J.Pitcher converted.
But the leaders settled down, denying St. David's a point and completing the season double over their rivals after having won 4-2 during the first half meeting.
Ham Parish 1 Paget 3 Paget continued to prove that they are serious about making a run at promotion with this comfortable victory over Hamilton Parish at St. David's Oval.
They held on to second place in the table and kept within one point of the leaders with this victory.
Paget were inspired up front by Dennis Russell who netted their first two goals while substitute Jermayne Pond got the third.
Tajmal Webbe netted for Parish, replying to Russell's first goal after 21 minutes.
Russell made it 2-1 with his second goal after 56 minutes and Pond finished off the scoring after 66 minutes.
Ire. Rangers 2 Prospect 1 Ireland Rangers moved into sole possession of third place after a thrilling come-from-behind victory over plucky Prospect at Malabar Field.
Trailing for much of the contest and looking like further damaging their promotion hopes, Rangers once again found a hero in the likes of Jonathan Bean, who produced a pair of rapid strikes in the dying stages to save the Dockyard crew.
Phillip Bailey gave the visitors the lead in the first half during a goalmouth scramble, and this looked like holding up as play meandered towards conclusion.
But with 10 minutes left, Bean produced the magic that has become his staple, netting twice inside of two minutes to leave his opponents stunned.
Rangers, with 12 points to their credit, now stand six points behind second placed Paget, but have a game in hand.
Som Eagles 0 Boulevard 0 Somerset Eagles wasted an opportunity to advance further up the standings when they allowed themselves to be held to a scoreless draw by last placed Boulevard at White Hill Field.
The west end club did go up a spot from sixth to fifth, but had potential to climb as far as fourth and back into the thick of the promotion chase.
