Bermuda bid farewell with Plate victory
Trophy tournament on Saturday when they won the Consolation Plate Final, beating the United Arab Emirates by 57 runs.
The victory saw Bermuda finish the tournament ninth overall, Saturday's win helped by another solid batting performance from young Janeiro Tucker.
Bermuda batted first and finished with 214 for eight in 50 overs while the UAE were all out for 157 in 40.2 overs.
Tucker, who made the team's only century against Papua New Guinea, led Bermuda with an innings of 42 while Glenn Smith followed with 41, Clay Smith 39 and Roger Trott 37.
No other details of the scoreboard were immediately available with the Bermuda squad having checked out of their hotel after the match to begin the long journey home.
Meanwhile, half-centuries by skipper Maurice Odumbe and Kennedy Obuya boosted title contenders Kenya to 215 in 50 overs against Ireland yesterday in the rain-marred first semi-final.
Ireland will bat today, organisers said.
Kenya started well, with opening batsman Aasif Karim making 23 runs before he was bowled by fast bowler Neil Doak.
Obuya (51) was caught by Andrew Patterson off Paul McCrum, who finished with a match haul of four wickets for 51 runs in nine overs. Skipper Odumbe was run out for 67.
Stephen Tikolo, who has played a prominent role in Kenya's run of victories since the tournament started on March 24, was out for zero, bowled by Doak.
In the other semi-final tomorrow, Bangladesh will play Scotland.
The top three teams in the 22-nation tournament qualify to play in the 1999 World Cup.
