they led home the field in yesterday's Barbara A.E. Ming Memorial Round the Sound road race.

Both coming off wins in Saturday's cross-country, the two athletes enjoyed contrasting victories.

While Wright won comfortably by more than one and a half minutes over the 7.2 mile course, after a challenge by Leon Matthews quickly faded, Fisher had to work hard to stay ahead of Maria Conroy Haydon who finished just over 30 seconds behind.

Wright was clocked in 40.40 with Roger Dill placing second in 42.05 and first master Harry Patchett taking third in 42.22. Neil de Ste. Croix finished fourth in 43.00, second master Rod Allen fifth (43.06) and Matthews eventually sixth (43.28).

Following Fisher and Conroy Haydon in third place was Julia Hawley, who clocked 48.09, almost two minutes up on fourth placed Donna Watson (50.02).

Caroline Jones took female masters honours in 60.45, ahead of Jan Shaw (70.38).

The men's veterans division saw Nigel Chudleigh (60.56) finish ahead of Beldwin Smith (63.04) and Ludwig Cann (73.24). Christine DeSilva (71.53) won the female veterans award.
