Bermuda in semis
3-2 triumph at the Northern Ireland Milk Cup.
Victims of the resurgent Under-14 side were Russia's FC Istochnik as Bermuda ran roughshod over their opponents, at one stage leading 3-0.
An error by the Russian defence early in the first half allowed Keemo Smith to break through for Bermuda's first goal and at the interval the scoreline read 1-0.
Smith also played a major role in the second goal, with his cross picked up by the fleet-footed Damon Hewey 18 yards away from goal and he raced past the defence before slotting his effort by the helpless goalkeeper.
Bermuda were now brimming with confidence and moments later this was emphasised when Sri Wilson added a third strike. Wilson coolly controlled a Vernon Tankard cross into the middle of the penalty area before smashing the ball home to the delight of his teammates.
However, with a three goal cushion the lads got careless and Istochnik took full advantage, roaring back for two unanswered goals, including a penalty, and forcing Bermuda to hold on desperately for the final result.
"We basically dominated the game,'' said an exhausted head coach Jon Beard.
"Up until now we had been dealing with the direct, physical style of the English, pumping the long ball. This was our game, with more of the short passing style.
"We didn't play as well as we had in previous matches and should have won by a larger margin, but poor finishing let us down.'' This morning has Bermuda taking on Irish side Ballymena in the semifinals and if successful they will contest the final later in the day.
But they will have to do without leading scorer Damon Ming (three goals), who was taken to the hospital to have his ankle checked after sustaining a knock.
This was a precautionary move as the injury was not thought to be serious, however, Ming is doubtful for today's matches.
