Tough test for Cox in semi-final
Men's Invitation Tournament as four players who have either won local titles or contested a final moved forward.
Bermuda's hopes now rest with Ricky Cox, who won this event in 1992. He scored a two and one victory over fellow Bermudian Blake Marshall who a day earlier had defeated the defending champion, Germany's Thomas Hubner.
Cox faces a semi-final clash this morning with South Carolina's Dick Horne, a former Bermuda amateur champion who yesterday ousted Maryland's William Fuller two and one.
Today's other semi-final will be between medallist Paul Evans, also from Maryland, and North Carolina's Doug Clark.
Evans, beaten by Cox in the 1992 final, triumphed two and one over American Austin Eaton while Doug Clark, also a former Bermuda amateur champion, had an easier time, getting past Quebec's Gino Berretta five and four.
Today's two semi-finals tee off at 7.42 and 7.48 a.m. respectively with the 18-hole final scheduled for 1.15 p.m.
Yesterday's senior semi-finals saw Maryland's Charles Hartnett stay on course for a second successive title as he got past Dick Stimets two and one.
Hartnett faces another Marylander, Ted Kenerson in today's final. Kenerson defeated Donald Page hree and two.
