Charlie stakes his claim
Charlie Marshall's stellar innings dwarfed anything else that occurred over last the weekend.
True, it was against a short-handed and uninspired St. David's team, but the quality of Marshall's play was deserving of his first century of the season.
Marshall is joined in this week's Fab Five by Peter Philpott of Cleveland, Clay Smith of St. George's, Noel Gibbons of Bailey's Bay and Olin Jones of Southampton.
Charlie Marshall: Blistering square cuts for four off Herbie Bascome within 10 minutes of arriving at the wicket should have indicated the day Marshall would have. Finished with an incredible 25 fours and eight sixes in a lusty spell of hitting that wrecked the bowling figures of Lionel Cann (18.3-0-104-2).
Peter Philpott: Led Cleveland to their most convincing win in some time, a crushing nine-wicket defeat of Willow Cuts who had scored 183. Hit 111 not out in an unbroken second-wicket stand of 144 with Jermaine Postlethwaite (50).
Philpott hit eight fours and two sixes.
Clay Smith: Cruised to 40 before giving fine leg-side catch to Ricky Hill but then continued to show growing value to St. George's in big win over Bailey's Bay. Took two catches, one of which was diving, and then claimed two for 30 from 10 overs of off-spin after being introduced to stop the run flow.
Noel Gibbons: Rebounded from going for five runs an over to claim three for 43 against St. George's and then batted with maturity before running out of partners. Innings of 60 was highest this season.
Olin Jones: Showing signs of life with 25 against Warwick in Western Counties and then 50 against Warwick. PHOTO CHARLIE MARSHALL -- Deserved his first century of the season last Saturday.
