Motorists are driving through red lights at the roadworks between Flatts and Shelly Bay, said Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning.

"While it is appreciated that motorists are frustrated with the delays, particularly during the peak rush hours, the problem is actually being made far worse by traffic going through when a red light is showing. This illegal practice is causing those on `green' to be delayed, ultimately resulting in confusion and increased frustration.

"Police patrols will be paying attention to this area and motorists should be advised they may be prosecuted if they fail to stop at the red light.''
