yesterday after being charged with 62 foreign currency violations involving more than $200,000.

Gregory Ryan Ashby was not required to enter a plea in Magistrates' Court as he will be tried in Supreme Court.

The offences allegedly took place between August 3, 1992, and March 2 this year and involved 79 applications for foreign currency that stated the money was for either overseas trips or gifts.

As conditions of his bail, the 35-year-old must surrender his passport and any other document which can be used for travel, and report to the Hamilton Police Station each day.

In a separate case, a Smith's Parish man who stands accused of importing, handling and possessing almost two kilos of cannabis with intent to supply was bailed for $50,000 with a like surety.

Reid Quinard Simmons of Kilderry Estates must also surrender his passport and any other travel documents and report to the Hamilton Police Station daily.

The 33-year-old, who was not required to enter a plea, will be tried in the Supreme Court.
