Longbird lounge takes off
members only at the Airport, has opened for business and a grand opening is slated for the evening of September 22 to be attended by Transport Minister Dr. Ewart Brown.
A local group of businessmen, including majority owner and president of Bermuda Airport Executive Lounge Ltd. Robin Gilbert , and minority owner Jim Pitman won the bid to operate the Club a year ago.
But they have been subjected to delays due to the Grape Bay Ltd./McDonald's franchise legal wrangle, company spokesman David Goodwin said. But since its quiet August opening, the Club has signed up 90 members so far.
Anyone can be a member through purchase of corporate or individual memberships starting at $450 annually. And through an agreement, all Continental Airlines first class passengers are entitled to free membership.
The Club, upstairs in the US departures area, offers full IT services, including computer/Internet workstations. It also offers: a concierge, free local calls, air ticket help, credit card phones, paper shredder, photocopying, fax services, cheque cashing, hotel and theatre reservations, newspapers and magazines, lost luggage help, complimentary beverages, all-day snacks and a full bar.
