The St. George's Golf Club director of golf carded nines of 35-38 over the 6,641-yard layout. Swan's partners Pat Fitzsimmons of Portland, Oregon and Mayfair professional Pat Dunn, shot 68 and 77 respectively.

PGA veteran Craig Stadler, a former Masters winner, shot a two-under 69 playing in the group ahead of Swan. With several groups still out on the course last night at press time, seven players shared the clubhouse lead at four-under par 67.

The tournament is the second of two Canadian professional tour events that Swan is playing on sponsors exemptions. He missed the cut at last week's $100,000 Payless Open after rounds of 75-77.
