Cross-country season has seven-race series
with the first race to be hosted by Swan's Running Club starting at the Chaplin Bay car park opposite Warwick Camp (9 a.m.) It is the first of a seven-race series, which will be again sponsored by Federal Express and Continental Airlines while the junior series has retained Minute Maid as the chief sponsor.
Performance in the series will be looked upon closed by the BTFA when places in Bermuda teams for at least one international event, including the CAC Cross-Country Championships in Barbados next February, are considered.
The Barbados event is for Bermuda nationals only but a second overseas race, details of which have yet to be finalised, will feature a representative team.
The local series, won by Tracy Wright and Anna Eatherley, will this season include the national championships.
It is hoped that bringing the nationals forward to December 18 from the end of January, when road running takes centre stage, will encourage increased participation.
The nationals, to be held at Ferry Point Park in St. George's, will conclude the series.
The senior male and female series winners will receive airline tickets to New York and there will also be two tickets given as draw prizes for anyone who competes or helps in at least five out of the seven races.
The juniors (19 and under) have to compete in at least four races to qualify for prizes in their series.
The men will run six miles, women and secondary school boys three miles, secondary school girls one-and-a-half miles, and primary school girls and boys one to one-and-a-quarter miles.
Registration for tomorrow's race is up until 8.45 a.m. and the entry fee is $2 for seniors, who must be aged 20 or over. There is no fee for juniors.
