Refs chief to stand down
Bermuda Referees Association at their annual general meeting next Monday at Police Recreation Club.
But he still hopes to remain as chairman of the Referees Committee within Bermuda Football Association.
Grimes has served just one year as president of the BRA in his second stint in the post, having taken over from Stuart Crockwell last year. In total, Grimes served for 14 years on the BRA executivs, including 11 straight as secretary and two previously as president.
"I've got some personal things I need to get done, job-related, and it doesn't make sense me putting in a whole lot of time with both of them,'' explained Grimes, who said there was one last thing he wanted to see drafted into the constitution before he steps down.
"I want to see all referees drug tested during the year,'' said the outgoing president. "That's on the agenda for Monday night before the election of officers. We managed to get it on a voluntary basis this year.'' Added Grimes: "The other executives I've spoken to are still prepared to run.
If I'm re-elected on the BFA this year, and the president so chooses, I will continue in that role (as chairman).'' A referees' course and workshop will be held on Saturday and Sunday at St.
Brendan's Hospital from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. each day. The course is open to all referees and anyone interested in becoming a referee.
