West's season back on track with title win
Eric West captured a second Moonlightgolf.com Tour title in Florida earlier this week, firing a tournament-best five-under 67 to beat Canadian James Chan by a single stroke at Rock Springs Ridge.
After a disappointing Tour de las Americas debut in South America last month, the 24 year old Bermudian pro returned to form to suggest he is recovering from a recent bout with back spasms that threatened to derail his promising season.
West failed to make the cut at last month's Colombia Masters and was then forced to retire after nine holes a week later at the Chile Open because of back problems.
But with a few weeks of rest under his belt and the emotional scars of last month's disappointments in South America behind him, West's game appears to have taken a turn for the better.
"It was a bit unexpected, but it's all good," said West, who carded six birdies and an eagle at the par five, tenth hole. "It was really one of those days when I felt as though I couldn't miss a putt, even if I tried."
West, who also had three bogeys, now intends to work closely with coach Mike Zander, who also coaches 2007 Masters champion Zach Johnson, prior to heading off to Mexico later this month in hopes of making inroads on the Tour de las Americas.
He was originally scheduled to take part in a US Open qualifier this week but eventually jettisoned those plans for fear of re-aggravating discomfort in his upper back.
In March of this year the Bermudian earned his Tour de las Americas card and then fired a three-under -par 69 at Windermere Country Club to celebrate a maiden Moonlightgolf.com Tour win in Florida.
