Last minute rush to register yesterday
The Parliamentary Registry office was a hub of activity yesterday with people rushing in to ensure they would be able to vote in the December 18 election.
All forms had to be completed and submitted by 5 p.m. yesterday.
The final voter registration list will be printed and online on November 20.
The four full time staff and addition two support staff were busy helping people complete forms and answering any questions the public had.
Parliamentary Registrar Randy Scott said the office had been busy for the past few weeks but said it was not as manic as the run up to the 2003 election, when electoral reform took place and single seat constituencies were created.
He added that he has seen an increase in the number of first time voters registering for this election.
"We have an excellent team here, they really have been marvellous," Mr. Scott said. "From what I have seen it looks like there are more people registering to vote this time around but we will have to wait and see.
"I don't know if that is because of our registration drive or the candidates making sure people in their constituencies are registered properly.
"We have also seen a lot of duplicate forms, people who corrected their details in the summer and then submitted a form again in November just to be sure. Once you've submitted correct details you don't need to do it again."
Information about advanced voting and other voting issues will be released in the coming weeks.
As of November 20 people will be able to check online at www.elections.gov.bm or at post offices across the Island to ensure that they were properly registered.
