Tynes Bay expansion needed – Sen. Burch

Bermudians are producing too much garbage, hence the need to extend the Tynes Bay waste treatment facility, the Senate heard during a budget debate on Works and Engineering.

Government Senate Leader David Burch, responding to a question from Opposition Senator Charles Swan about why the facility was being upgraded, said the previous government had the foresight to leave space for expansion and that was now being exploited.

Opposition Senate Leader Michael Dunkley called on Government to keep the public in the loop regarding the demolition of Club Med and what it meant for future development, suggesting there might be a "a ray of hope on the horizon".

He also suggested that the new recycling plant was being used on a very limited basis and said Bermudians needed to have a change of attitude regarding recycling.
