This week the Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation is hosting a printmaking class with non-toxic inks.

The visiting professor teaching the class, Keith Howard, is also a noted artist and author and is often referred to as the "father of soy-based inks".

The classes began on Tuesday morning and run until Saturday.

Mr. Howard's achievement, known as the 'Howard-Type', has radically changed printing in the field of graphic arts and in commercial printing.

He has written extensively on the subject of non-toxic inks and is the author of more than fifteen articles, which have appeared in leading magazines and publications.

Prof. Howard is a well known and highly respected artist in his own right and has exhibited his work in notable galleries and institutions worldwide.

Dr. Charles Zuill, who is known for his personal background and interest in printmaking, introduced Mr. Howard to the Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation and Bermuda.

Fiona Rodriquez-Roberts, founder and director of Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation and the Elliot Gallery said she is excited at the prospect of hosting Prof. Howard.

"I am delighted that Prof. Howard has agreed to work with us," she said.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for both artists and art lovers here to tap into the expertise and knowledge of one of the world's foremost graphic artists and teachers."

The Printmaking Workshop and Prof. Howard's visit are made possible by the support of the Bermuda Arts Council. The etching press was donated to KAF by the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard to foster the visual arts in Bermuda.
