Trucker more than three times over limit
A trucker was more than three times over the drink drive limit when he smashed into an electricity pole, a court heard.
Police at the crash scene asked Aden DeSilva if he was drunk, and he told them: "Yeah. I'm not going to lie. I've had a few."
Officers were called to a single vehicle accident on Middle Road, Smith's, and saw a stationary white Mazda truck in the west-bound lane.
A nearby Belco pole had been "heavily damaged", said Senior Crown counsel Paula Tyndale.
DeSilva was later breath tested and gave a reading of 265 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The limit is 80 millilitres.
Acting Magistrate Shade Subair said this was a high rate of alcohol consumption.
She fined the 29-year-old $1,000 and barred him from the road for one year.
The defendant, of Alexandra Road, Devonshire, admitted to impaired driving on September 30.
