JetBlue flights cancelled today
JetBlue flights to Bermuda are cancelled again today as the company struggles to deal with the fall out of last week’s New York ice storm. It was forced to cancel nearly a quarter of its flights after the storm struck on February 14.
The airline admitted it failed to act swiftly after the ice storm, which threw federally mandated air crew work-time schedules into disarray, resulting in massive flight cancellations
JetBlue spokeswoman Tracy Sanford said yesterday: “This has never happened before on this scale. We didn’t cancel flights as much as we could have.”
She said the delays and subsequent cancellations had a “snowball effect” on air crew schedule. On Saturday it cancelled 173 of tis 600 flights and yesterday it cancelled another 144 flights. Today 139 flights were cancelled, including the Bermuda flight.
The airline offered refunds and free flights to travellers scheduled for flights to and from a dozen or so cities and said it may reimburse some “on a case by case basis” to travel on other carriers.
