Challengers St. George's took the game to Cup Match champions Somerset yesterday as captain Charlie Marshall made a fighting lunchtime declaration in the 100th anniversary of Cup Match.
St. George's raced to 234-8 by lunch as veteran Marshall stroked 71, in-form opener Glen Blakeney smashed 63 and vice captain Clay Smith scored 33.
Somerset colt Dennis Pilgrim was the most dangerous bowler for the defending champions, taking three wickets.
Somerset were struggling at 215-8 late on Thursday evening, setting the stage for a battle for the title tomorrow.
